Gifts Kids Can Make

Beaded Wreath Tree Ornaments 
These are pretty and very simple to make! 

You will need: 
green 12" chenille stems (pipe cleaners) 
wire cutters 
red pony beads
red ribbon

1.  Cut the chenille stem in half with the wire cutters. 
1.  String about 5 beads at intervals onto the chenille stem.
3.  Bend the chenille into a circle.
4. Twist the ends together to make a wreath.
5. Tie a red ribbon on to hang it from a tree.

Baby Plants
Got any plant lovers on your list?  
(Note: This project needs to be started early.  A cutting may take several months to develop enough roots.)

You will need: 
a large plant that is big enough to take cuttings.  (Be sure to ask first!)  Swedish ivy plants work well for rooting.  Other good plants to root are wandering jew, and philodendrons.
small jars, glasses, or bottles
small plant pots 
potting soil 

1.  Cut pieces of the of plant stems.  The stem cuttings should have 3 or 4 leaves.
2.  Put the stems in jars of water, and keep them in a sunny window.
3.  Keep the water level full, and watch for roots to grow.  
4.  When there are a number of roots at least an inch long,
plant the cuttings in potting soil in the plant pots.
5.  Keep the soil moist.

You can wrap the pots with colored foil and tie the pots with a ribbon to dress them up for gift-giving.

Paperwhite Bulbs
Paperwhites are beautiful flowers that you can grow in the winter.  They  make lovely gifts.

You will need: 6-8 paperwhite bulbs
a shallow dish (about 2 inches deep)
pebbles (you can get pebbles at a fish or pet store)

1.   Fill dish about halfway with pebbles. 
2.  Nestle bulbs into the pebbles (with the pointed part up.)
3.  Add more pebbles, about halfway up the bulbs.
3.  Add water to cover the pebbles.
4.  Put in a cool, dark place.
6.  In about 2 weeks, you should see  shoots coming out of the tops of the bulbs.  When the shoots are about 2 inches high, bring the bulbs into the light.
7.  Put it in a sunny but cool place.
8.  Keep the water level up.

You can give the bulbs as a gift either before or after they bloom.

Lavender Bath Salts
A sweet-smelling gift!

You will need:
1 Cup Epsom salts
1/2 Cup table salt
1 box baking soda
a few drops of lavender oil

1.  Mix the salts and  the baking soda.
2.  Add the lavender.
3.  Put in an airtight container such as a pretty jar with a lid. 

You can decorate the jar by adding a ribbon or a bow.

Lavender Bath Oil
almond oil
a few drops of lavender oil
optional: lavender sprig or rose petals.

Mix the almond oil and the lavender oil.
Put a lavender sprig or a few rose petals into a pretty bottle.
Pour oil into bottle.

Candy Cane Coffee Spoons
(these are great, easy to make gifts for coffee lovers)

1 cup (6 oz) semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 candy cane or 5 peppermint candies, crushed
12 heavy-duty plastic spoons in Christmas colors

1.  Put candy in a baggie and crush with a rolling pin.
2.  Melt chocolate.
3.  Dip spoons into chocolate to fill.
4.  Sprinkle with crushed candy.
5.  Place on waxed paper covered cookie sheet to cool.

Wrap with cellophane and tie with ribbons for gifts.

Decoupage Cookie Plates
Who doesn't like cookies?

You will need:
clear glass plates
plain white paper
Mod Podge

1.  Trace around a plate.
2.  Cut out the circle.
3.  Make a colorful, Christmasy drawing.  (gingerbread men look nice!)
4.  Brush Mod Podge onto the back of the plate.
5.  Press your picture onto the back of the plate.  
6.  Press out any wrinkles.
7.  Let the plate dry.

Fill this plate with Christmas cookies you have made!
Cover it with colored cellophane and add a bow.

Christmas Cards

Make a Christmas card with the words "Sweet Wishes for A Merry Christmas!"  On the inside of the card, glue or staple a wrapped mini candy cane.

Christmas Candy

Candy makes a great gift.
Put the candy in a jar with  a pretty ribbon, or in a Christmas tin.
